RIP Vic Damone.  Such a great voice.  I could listen to this song over and over.  You will be missed ;((

I was so sad to hear that Vic Damone passed away. What a great singer. Met him in the 80's in AC at Steve Wynn's Golden Nugget. Very tall, good looking. A year ago, I saw him and his wife's name on a large bronze plaque inside the Abramson Cancer center at the University of Pennsylvania. This was for major donors, mostly billionaires were on the plaque, so the Damone's must have donated an awful lot to be up there. God bless the Damone's for their charity, for I saw people coming in from all over the world to be treated at the Abramson Cancer center.

Vic was a very good singer but no one can touch Sinatra

Sotiris Kafaridis; thank you my friend. I have great respect for the talent and style of Vic. Even Frank knew he was in a class all by himself. It is hard for me not to imitate him.

My Mom mentioned this song in several letters she wrote to my Dad in 1954. So glad I finally got to hear it. Beautiful lyrics. Apparently they danced to it at their wedding reception.

i got a chance for a brief meeting with vic at his dressing room at caesars palace years ago he did a show with diann carrol i love the nearness of you i think it may be the best version i have ever heard and the intro almost made me cry terrific

Sinatra was always intimidated by Vic Damone's singing, he said it many times Vic had the best pipes in the business...for sure.

One of American popular music's finest songs from all perspectives. For me, it "belongs" to Jo Stafford. Nobody like her, excepting Vic Damone in this rendition. Stafford's rings of a person's first deep love. Damone's has a haunting quality, experienced at one's greatest loss. Both performances so sincere. besides well sung.
