One of the greatest voices ever. As a child, I even liked Pfc. Vic Damone's Saturday morning radio spots sponsored by Coca-Cola and shared with Pfc. Eddie Fisher.

I visited with Eddie Fisher shortly before his death. Met him by chance on his way to a cosmetic surgeon's office in the building where I worked. He looked dreadful. We chatted about old times and he sweetly offered me a sip from his can of Diet Coke, which I politely declined. It was very sad to see the fallen star.

Died Sunday. Yes, he was one of the great crooners. "Best pipes in the business" said Frank Sinatra. How can you say that about any one? So many wonderful ones. Al Martino is another of my favorites. R.I.P. Vic Damone. Thank you for sharing your life with us all.

The singer who inspired the crooner character Vic Fontaine from "Star Trek: DS9" has now passed away. Vic Fontaine's (played by James Darren) name was inspired by the combination of Mr Damone's first name the fictional singer Johnny Fontaine from 'The Godfather," a role that was originally created to be played Damone but he turned down at the last minute (Al Martino ended up playing Fontaine in the movie).

RIP, Mr Damone. You're one of the great crooners from a bygone era where songwriters wrote great love songs like this one. May you all form a heavenly choir together in the afterlife with Frank, Perry, Dean, Nat, Bobby, Andy, Ella, Billie, and the other legendary crooners and divas who introduced the Great American Songbook to us.

Magnificent voice and I adore this song. My father had a wonderful voice and I so clearly remember him singing this song, and me along with him! I was about 10 at the time and was so happy to sing with daddy! He loved Vic Damone and others of his ilk, but now I realize that Vic was one of the best.

What impeccable diction and phrasing.  Sinatra was right -- he did have the best pipes in the business.  Rest in peace, darling Vito.  We will miss you in brooklyn.  Say hi to Ol' Blue Eyes.
